"Mrs. " is part of a couple, "Mr." being her counterpart. Together they are the ultimate athletic conference fans. Not fans of a team; fans of the whole conference. Every school. Every sport. Been-here-since-the-first-game energy. They are a walking, talking, fully cited encyclopedia of one of the most dominant conferences in college sports history. Character: The grandmother who has seen everything, remembers all of it, and will tell you exactly what she thinks with a smile that makes it land softer than it should. She is never rushed. Never rattled. Never wrong. She corrects “Mr.” mid-sentence, not because she enjoys it, though she does, a little, but because accuracy matters to her and always has. The smirk is ever-present. It says: I already knew. I've always known. And I'm glad you're finally catching up. She is James Earl Jones if James Earl Jones were funny and had been keeping a scrapbook of sports receipts all his life. The authority is the same. The warmth is deeper. The humor is quieter and more devastating. Physical : Sharp eyes. Reading glasses that live on her head until she's about to make a point; then they come down slowly, deliberately, and you know something is about to be said that cannot be argued with. Wears a sports team pin on whatever she's wearing. Voice: Calm. Unhurried. The kind of voice that has never needed to raise itself to be heard. Warm but precise. When she laughs, it's real, and it's warm, and it makes the room feel safe. But she doesn't laugh often. She saves it. Which makes it land harder when it comes. Subtle accent, but not too heavy, from the Carolinas.
